Recently I was doing some “Newbie” Quilting and Decor for some friends who are wanting to do a piece of DIY quilting for their daughter’s birthday. The topic of Tilda Doll fabric quilting has been floating around in my head for a while now but recently got more interested and decided to take a stab at it. They both liked the look of it and were very enthusiastic about it, so I sat down and started looking for ideas. After a couple hours of my time spent online I had made quite a few changes to the basic design and began to ask them what I should change and what I should not. One of them said they did not like the pink and blue contrast between the white and black, so I did some search to find out if there was any other quilters who were able to draw on fabric for this project and I stumbled across the fact that someone had quilted a Tilda doll with patchwork fabric a couple of years ago.
This inspired me to go for it because if you do this quilting then you know that nothing seems to be out of place. The Tilda doll is one of the most popular dolls that has ever been sold so you will be able to use your imagination to make it really special. I searched the internet and found several sites where people were making Tilda patches using a very pretty cream colored cotton cloth for the background and then the two patches for the face. I felt that a white and black would give a very modern look to the piece. The patch work can also be made using other fabrics. I just wanted a thread of cotton fabric with a plain patchwork pattern, so I settled on the black, white and red combination.
I went to my local Quilt store and bought some quilting board, a heavy duty staple gun and some scissors, this was a really quick project which I was happy to have completed. It was finished in a couple of hours and I knew that the paint was still tacky so I covered the piece with a dry cloth until the paint dried completely. My friend enjoyed it so much that she wanted to do the same project with Tilda doll cloth that she had to pay extra for, so I picked up some of her fabric and saved a bundle of money too. I can’t wait to do more projects with the Tilda fabric patchwork.
