It is when a work of art has three or more sections in one piece of cloth. This kind of patchwork is considered very graceful and elegant; it is a visual treat for the eyes.
If you plan to make your own fat quarter, you should understand the kind of fabric you are using and the requirements that you have for your piece. It is important to know the shape, weight and length of the fabric so that you can be confident that you can create the desired effect in the patchwork. It would be best if you buy a good material like cotton, rayon, silk or even wool. You should use a contrasting shade for the pieces of cloth for the middle part of the patchwork. A contrast may either be a shade darker or lighter than the middle of the piece.
The way you finish the piece will determine the fat quarter for beginner’s practice. You can follow the step-by-step instructions on the net, or if you prefer a hands-on method, you can create the patchwork yourself. I suggest you start with the first few rows. Order 2 pieces, cut 100cmx150cm ( one meter)
Order 3 pieces, cut 150cmx150cm ( one meter and a half)
Order 4 pieces, cut 200cmx150cm ( two meters)
And so on…
