What’s in a name? Well, for one thing, it is quite difficult to come up with a really good name for a virtual reality headset. Since this is basically the newest term in technology, there are a lot of buzzwords floating around. You get your name either as a first-person shooter, a racer, or even a video game controller, which is really all that it is.
The best thing you can do is pay attention to what people are calling virtual reality and try to make sense of it. If you think of virtual reality as an extension of your reality, it’s a very clear design. What this means is that you basically get to become like a real-life person. You get to experience life, right in front of you, in virtual reality. It sounds pretty cool, and that’s precisely what the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive are intending to do.
That said, you should really consider coming up with a perfect name for your device. Besides being hard to spell, there are a lot of other things that you want to include when thinking about what name you want to go with. For example, if you are just a regular video game player, then it makes sense to use the name Oculus Rift. If you are hardcore enough to use virtual reality for a hobby, it makes sense to go with HTC Vive. But on the other hand, if you’re going to play games at work, it’s all too likely that you’ll end up having to call your product something else, like Virtuix or GloFish. So it really all comes down to making sense of the name.
